Why Right Now Is the Best Time To Set Your 2026 Goals

Most people wait until January to think about goals. Honestly, that’s when everything gets noisy. Everyone is posting resolutions and by February half of them are forgotten.

Some people don’t even believe in goals. They go with the flow, live in the moment and see where life takes them. That’s fine.

For me, this is about making sure 2026 is the greatest it can be. It is time for the pendulum to swing back in a positive direction. The truth is we have to be the ones nudging that pendulum. We have to take actionable steps to make life happen. Even if you are not a “goals person,” taking a little time now to reflect and set a few intentions can make a huge difference.

Step 1: Look back before you leap forward

Take a minute to check in with yourself

  • What worked this year

  • What didn’t

  • When did you feel proud or alive

Even without a big list, knowing these things can guide your next moves, whether you call them goals, intentions or just things to focus on.

Step 2: Pick a few focus areas

Forget long lists of shoulds. Keep it simple. Pick 2 or 3 things that actually matter to you. Maybe it is

  • Career growth or skills

  • Health or wellness

  • Relationships or community

  • Money or side projects

The point is awareness, not perfection.

Step 3: Take one small action now

Big goals can feel heavy. Pick one small action for each focus area and do it before the year ends.

For example

  • Health: Prep your week of meals or schedule a workout

  • Career: Make that networking call or update your LinkedIn

  • Community: Plan one small act of kindness

Even tiny momentum now makes January feel lighter.

Step 4: Check in and adjust

Goals are not set in stone. Monthly check-ins help

  • What is working

  • What is not

  • What can I tweak to stay on track

This keeps things real and flexible, whether you are a hardcore goal-setter or more of a go-with-the-flow type.

Step 5: Start today

You do not need a perfect plan. Write down your focus areas, take one small step before the year ends and step into 2026 with clarity and energy.

I am doing this for myself too. It is time to swing the pendulum back, nudge it in the right direction and make sure 2026 is one of the best years yet. We have to be the ones who make it happen. A little reflection and action now goes a long way. Let’s do this.
